No, but GARP recommends CPD participation to maintain the value of certification. The program
requires earning 40 credits every two years, with one credit per hour of relevant learning.
There are no eligibility requirements for this exam; even individuals who have just completed their
12th grade can take it.
Preparation time varies based on experience. On average, candidates spend 275 hours studying.
Reported study times range from less than 100 to over 400 hours.
The exam is quantitative, but concepts are applied to real-world risk management scenarios. The
difficulty level is similar to an advanced undergraduate or introductory graduate-level finance
course.
No, work experience is not required to sit for the exam. However, to earn the FRM designation,
candidates must submit at least two years of professional work experience within five years of
passing Part II. Relevant experience from up to 10 years prior is also accepted.

Work Experience Requirement, To become FRM Certified, you must:

⢠Gain 2 years of full-time relevant work experience in financial risk management or related roles (e.g., portfolio management, trading, risk consulting, auditing, etc.)
⢠Submit the experience to GARP within 5 years after passing Part II
Note: You can appear for the exams before completing your 2 years of experience, but youāll only receive the official FRM certificate after satisfying this condition.
